I am a Food Experience Curator, and my culinary journey is a reflection of my life as a Tanzanian American, deeply rooted in the rich, diverse tapestry of Swahili culture. My cooking style is Modern Home Cooking, where the flavors of Tanzania meet the techniques of American farm-to-table cuisine, creating an expressive and authentic culinary experience.

Swahili culture is a unique blend of influences, with a Bantu foundation enriched by centuries of interaction with Arabic, Persian, and Indian traditions. This multicultural heritage is the heartbeat of my cooking, allowing me to create dishes that are not only flavorful but also deeply connected to a broader cultural narrative. Every meal I prepare is an opportunity to tell a story—one that bridges the gap between my heritage and the world around me.

My passion for food is more than just a love for cooking—it's an extension of who I am. Growing up, my parents often hosted gatherings where the warmth of home-cooked meals brought family and friends together. These experiences have shaped my belief that food is a universal language, one that connects us, celebrates our differences, and brings us closer together.

Through Salala Stirs the Pot, I invite you to join me on this journey of culinary exploration. My food is an expression of my identity, a blend of my Tanzanian roots, my American influences, and my personal experiences.

Let's embark on this journey together—where food is more than just a meal, it's a story waiting to be shared.

Tanzania is Africa’s hidden gem. The home of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti, Lake Victoria, and top vacation destination of 2020, Zanzibar—just to name a few. It is the home to over 60 million people living in Tanzania today but also, the home to many more people who live abroad like me. Home is embedded in all of us and we hold onto to that connectivity to help us find purpose. I found my purpose and my way back home through food. I want to use my hands to nourish everyone with my Swahili inspired cuisines whether it be in person, virtually or through my words. My love for food and eating directly relates to travel, moments with family & friends and sweet memories of Tanzania. Oh, how I love thee!

So, what’s the goal? The goal is I just really want to create, design and execute a beautiful cookbook. I want to tap into all my experiences and give you an opportunity to taste Tanzania. I promise you, the flavors will blow your mind!

Swahili Inspired Experience

Each experience is created with my guests in mind. From intimate dinners for two or small gatherings of up to 15, the intention is bring Tanzania to you through food.

Food + Wine

Accompanied by my sister, a wine connoisseur and sommelier in training, Jaela Salala brings a wealth of knowledge of wine from around the world. Jaela has an intentional focus in Black-owned and Female-owned wines—to name a few— in hopes to bring recognition to the diversity of the wine field.

A sister-duo like you have never seen before. We have come together to share our favorite pastime with you, conversations of home & food pairing. Our menu is intentionally paired to allow the spice of entree to be washed down smoothly with acid notes of wine.
